Frequently Asked Questions

Where is training held?

Training is held at Brothers Cricket Grounds, Lakeside Park, Golf Links Drive, Kirwan (back of shops/child care centre car park)

What nights are training?

We train at Riverway Stadium, Kirwan on the outside ground, each Thursday commencing at 5.45pm

We have a social night the first Thursday of each month where we have a slightly shorter training session then a meal.  If you are an Association Member the meal is included in your membership fee.  Parents and other family members are most welcome to join in but we do ask for a $2.00 coin donation for non-members.

What should I wear to training?

Comfortable clothes to train in and your running shoes or footy boots. We do have training tee shirts or singlets for sale if you wish to purchase one.  If you are a boundary or field umpire you should bring your whistle and if you are a goal umpire you should bring your flags.

Do I get paid?

Yes.  Umpires get paid per game.  The rate is dependent on the umpiring discipline and the grade or level of football they are umpiring.

Will I require a Blue Card?

If you are over the age of 18 you will require a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) because you will be training and umpiring with juniors.  You do need to have this before you can be appointed to games and your form of ID to apply must be photo ID from Main Roads.  Forms for this can be obtained online at https://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au/. This is a mandatory requirement of the AFL Townsville Umpires Association, AFL Queensland and the Queensland Government.  Once you have your card, advise the secretary, who can then link you to our Association if you are a member.
