Frequently Asked Questions

Where is training held?

Training is held at Brothers Cricket Grounds, Lakeside Park, Golflinks Drive, Kirwan (back of shops/child care centre carpark)

What nights are training?

Mondays and Thursdays from 5.30pm.

We have one compulsory Thursday training session a month where those who play and train for other clubs or sports need to come along.  After the compulsory training session a light meal is provided and parents and families are welcome to join for a gold coin donation.

What should I wear to training?

Comfortable clothes to train in and your running shoes or footy boots. We do have training tee shirts or singlets for sale if you wish to purchase one.  If you are a boundary or field umpire you should bring your whistle and if you are a goal umpire you should bring your flags.

How much do I get paid?

Umpires can be paid between $10 to $90 per game, dependent on the umpiring discipline and the grade level of football they are umpiring. Pay rates are shown here.

Will I require a Blue Card?

If you are over the age of 18 you will require a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) because you will be training and umpiring with juniors.  Forms for this can be obtained from the secretary or online at https://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au/. This is a compulsory requirement of the AFL Townsville Umpires Association and of AFL Queensland.
